Strategic Communications and Public Affairs

We are the University’s central point for corporate, internal and external communication, community engagement, public lectures and outreach, VIP visits and protocol. We  produce the quarterly magazine ANU Reporter, enewsletters On Campus, What’s On and ANU Public Lectures, and manage the ANU News website and ANU Channel on YouTube.

We are comprised of two groups: Strategic Communications, who are the story tellers, and Public Affairs, who are the connectors.

The story tellers look after corporate communications, media relations, social media, internal communications and reputation and issues management. The connectors run major events, public lectures and outreach, VIP visits and protocol and government, corporate, diplomatic and community relationships.

Together, we tell the ANU story. We contribute to achieving the University’s strategic goals by shaping public opinion, fostering ANU engagement and critical relationships, harnessing pride within the institution, and showcasing ANU excellence.

Journalists

We help journalists find ANU experts and stories, through services like our Experts List and media releases. To get our media releases by email, contact media@anu.edu.au with your contact details and the types of subjects you are interested in.

Staff and students

We help ANU staff and students communicate effectively by providing advice and services, including assisting with media releases, social media, events and training. We also assist staff with public lectures and events. ANU staff interested in being available to the media should request inclusion in the Experts List.

Parliaments and VIP visits

We manage visits to ANU for senior public servants, Chancellors, Vice-Chancellors and significant members of the public, and offer advice on protocol issues relating to VIP visits and interactions.

Community

We manage the public lectures and events that are an essential part of ANU community outreach and provide the ACT and regional community with access to some of the world’s top academics, scholars, public figures and theorists.
