Yan Yu from the Australian Demographic and Social Research Institute has been awarded the Dorothy S. Thomas Award of the Population Association of America. The award is presented annually for the best graduate student paper on the interrelationships among social, economic and demographic variables.

Professor Joan Beaumont, Director of the Faculty of Arts, has been announced as one of three judges for the Prime Minister’s 2009 Literary Awards in the Non-Fiction category by the Federal Arts Minister and ANU graduate, Peter Garrett.

The AutoCRC has won the STAR Award for Excellence in Innovation for Automotive Supplier Excellence Australia (ASEA) at the Cooperative Research Centres’ Association Annual Conference (CRC). The award recognises outstanding examples of the transfer of CRC research results, knowledge and technologies that have been developed for a wide range of users of research, including the community, companies and government agencies. ASEA has been developed and run solely by ANU through the CRC.

A software engineering project team that included Martin Bolanca, Benjamin Coughlan, Jeremy Hooke, Briely Marum, Gaurau Mitra and Timothy Murphy from the ANU College of Engineering and Computer Sciences has won this year’s Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) Tertiary iAward for their project. The team will now represent Australia in competition against the best of the Asia Pacific region at the APICTA Awards.
